Marlene H. Burckhard , 85, of Grand Forks, ND went to be with the Lord, with her husband by her side, on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Valley Senior Living Columbia Road, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Marlene Helen Gladue was born August 20, 1934, in Walhalla, ND the daughter of Alphonse and Mary (LaRoque) Gladue. She attended school in Walhalla and Sisters of St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Grand Forks, graduating in 1955. Marlene married James Burckhard on November 10, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND. She was employed as a registered nurse in Grand Forks for forty years, taking a break to raise her children. She was involved in various committees at Holy Family Catholic Church and was on a bowling league for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

The family of Marlene wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Valley Senior Living. In Marlene's honor and memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

There are special people in our lives that never leave us even after they are gone. Marlene is gone, but will never be forgotten.

Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James "Jim"; sons, Robert "Bob" (Audra) Grand Forks, Mark, Phoenix, AZ and Patrick (her caregiver for many years), Grand Forks; a daughter, Lori (Richard) Hubbard, Lavon, TX; grandchildren, Eric (Brandie) Burckhard, Andrew "Andy" Burckhard, Alec (Myah) Burckhard, Michayla Burckhard, Jessi (Josh) Westra, Stephanie Burckhard and James Hubbard; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ramona Danielson; brother-in-law, Dale Grubb and many nieces and nephews.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Duane, George, Robert and Alva and her sisters, Stella Taylor and Jean Grubb.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 in Holy family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation : One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.
