Marlene J. Maxon , 79, of Grand Forks, ND, died Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, from the complications of a five-month battle with bile-duct cancer.

Marlene was born on September 21, 1942, in Mayville, ND, the daughter of Melvin C. and Olga (Amundson) Syverson. She attended Portland High School and graduated in the class of 1960.

She attended Mayville State and the Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. After completing her business course, she was employed at the Division of Supervised Study in Fargo.

She married Eldred Ramstad in 1966, they lived in Fargo for a time then moved to Grand Forks where they managed the Lamplighter Apartment complex. She obtained her real estate license and sold for Century 21 in Grand Forks.

She married Robert L. Maxon on December 28, 1987, in Grand Forks. Following their marriage, they resided in Grand Forks and Robert was employed with Coldwell Banker as a Realtor. Robert and Marlene owned rental properties which she managed and did much of the upkeep on.

Together they were active members of several car clubs, including:  The Northern Lights Corvette Club of Fargo, and the Northern Cruz Car Club of Grand Forks.

They were very proud of the 2008 Corvette that he modified and they enjoyed showing it off at car shows. She was very fond of running her Vette "Beastly" to the weekly car show Thursday evenings at Culver's.

Landscaping their properties led to an avid interest in gardening, she was a long-time member and President of the Grand Forks Horticulture Society. She toured gardens in several states and countries. Friends she acquired in the GFHS were very supportive of Marlene in her cancer battle and the family is very appreciative of that.

Throughout her battle with cancer, her long-time friends Gaynelle Rydland and Andrea Rud have been of immeasurable help and support, the family can only say, "Thank you."

She is survived by her brother Larry (Patricia) Syverson of Mayville, ND. Nieces Jessica Syverson and Brenda Ramstad Chandler; Nephews: Barry Ramstad, Scott Ramstad, Ryan Syverson and Scott Syverson; and her Yorkie, Fritz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Melvin O., and her husband Robert who passed away June 23, 2010.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the historic Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND

Visitation: one hour before service time.

Burial: at a later date
