Marlys E. Jensen , 79, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Jamestown, ND passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Marlys Elaine Mathias was born on January 7, 1944, in Jamestown, ND, to Eston and Margaret (Berge) Mathias.  She grew up in Jamestown on a dairy farm with her two sisters and brother. Marlys enjoyed working in the fields alongside her family, returning through the years to help out with the harvest. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1961.  After high school, she moved to Grand Forks and was employed with the Headquarters Office of the Grand Forks Air Force Base.  Marlys married Richard E. Jensen in October of 1962 and together they had two children, Penny and Rick.  They moved to Hatton, ND in 1964, where they raised their family and Marlys began her career with the United States Postal Service.  She eventually transferred to the Grand Forks Post Office, which brought her to Grand Forks in 1983.  Marlys retired from the Grand Forks Post Office after 40 years of dedicated service.

Marlys' first love was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; always making time to visit with family and attend the many sporting events and activities that her grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) participated in. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being outdoors, especially tending to her flowers. She took great pride in her flower garden which she generously shared with both family and friends. Marlys was quick to smile and always extended a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny (Hank) Becker, Thompson, ND; her son, Rick (Patti) Jensen, Valley, NE; her sisters, Joann Mathias, Brooklyn Park, MN and Judy Bair, Jamestown, ND; her brother, Wade Mathias, Rosanky, TX; her grandchildren, Amy (Dwayne) Stenehjem, Barbara Johnson, Diane (Michael) Quern, Cody Spring, Erin (Jason) Aschenbrenner, Stacey Jensen, Wade (Briar) Jensen; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews and former spouse, Richard Jensen.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.
