Mary Pat Cariveau , 77, of Grand Forks, ND, died on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Mary Pat was born June 6, 1946, in Grand Forks, ND to Adelaide (Andraschko) Rerick and George Rerick. She graduated from St. James High School in 1964 and, in 1968, married her high school sweetheart, Duane Cariveau. They were married for 39 years until Duane died in 2007.

Mary Pat was a registered nurse for over 40 years and had a true passion and calling as a psychiatric nurse. She helped countless people during her career at Northeast Human Service Center and Altru Hospital. She always believed in preserving the dignity of people with mental illness.

Her wit and humor were unmatched. She avidly followed the news and loved discussing politics. She made it clear where she stood and was glad to share her views. Mary Pat also loved musicals, and she especially enjoyed her trips to see the Lion King and Chicago on Broadway.

Mary Pat's greatest joy was family. She was fiercely loyal, protective, and proud of the people she loved. She was our strongest supporter. She dearly loved her three children and seven grandchildren, all of whom occupied a unique and special place in her heart. She was an avid fan of anything her grandchildren were involved in, and she came to every game, every performance, and every event that she possibly could.

She truly saw each person for who they were and eloquently expressed why they were special. Her caring presence, incredible sense of humor, and abundant love filled every room she was in, and her absence leaves an immense hole in our hearts.

She is survived by her three children, Kathy (John) Lund, Grand Forks, ND; Daniel (Alison) Cariveau, Roseville, MN; and Lisa (Daniel Solomon) Cariveau, St. Paul, MN; her grandchildren, Abby (Cristiano) Lund Da Costa, Brenna Lund, Noah Lund, Dylan Cariveau, Rowan Cariveau, Paul Solomon, and Michelle Solomon and her siblings, Timothy Rerick, Beth (David) Haney, and Nancy (Dan) Jorgenson, and sister-in-law, Carol Rerick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, her father, George Rerick, her mother, Adelaide Rerick, and a brother, Doug Rerick.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.
Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
