Mary Natalie "Natie" Coss , 97, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 4000 Valley Square-Woodside Village in Grand Forks.

Mary Natalie Chavez was born on October 27, 1927, in Las Cruces, NM the daughter of Fred and Camilla (Telles) Chavez. She grew up and attended school in San Diego, CA.  In late 1945, she met a handsome sailor, Willard E. Coss.  Following Willard's discharge from the United States Navy, Mary and Willard married on May 19, 1946, at the historic San Diego Mission de Acala in San Diego.  They made their home in Grand Forks. Natie was a stay-at-home mom to her 3 children until her employment with Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks.  She was employed with American Crystal Sugar from 1976 until her retirement in 1992.  Willard preceded her in death on September 20, 1988.

Natie enjoyed travelling the United States, bowling, word search puzzles, reading, watching game shows, cooking, and baking.  Her specialties were meat balls, potato salad, and her "icky" banana bread (her words).  Most of all, her greatest joy was spending holidays and special occasions with her family.  She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliaries and volunteered many hours with these organizations.  She was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Rydell; a son, Richard Coss; a granddaughter, Lisa (Randy) Fincher; great-grandsons, Jason Ewing and Cody (Malena Hackett) Ewing; a great-granddaughter, Isabel (James) Flores; her sisters, Corrine Burgess and Lydia Dyches; a brother, Fred Chavez and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard, a son, James Coss, daughters-in-law, Mary Kay Hanson and Gail Coss; her brothers, Raymond Chavez, Albert Chavez, and Victor Chavez.

Graveside Service and Rite of Committal: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
