Melanie Lynn Maier , 72, of Fargo, ND and formerly of Grand Forks ND, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 28, 2023, in Sanford Health in Fargo, with her family by her side.

Melanie Lynn Vodden was born April 26, 1950, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Lorne and Ramona (Romfo) Vodden. She was raised in Grand Forks, ND and attended Grand Forks Central High School. Melanie married Albert "Al" Maier on December 4, 1976, in First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Melanie and Al raised their family in Fargo. They lived in Grand Forks, ND, Fargo, ND and retired to their lake home on Round Lake, MN in 1992. Melanie had a home daycare and was a homemaker throughout her life.

Melanie was very proud of her family and loved when everyone would gather for holidays or other family events at her and Al's lake home on Round Lake in MN. She was especially proud of her grandson's and their accomplishments.

She is survived by her son, Shad (Jeanine) Maier; grandsons, Josh, and Jake Maier all of Fargo, ND; brothers, Steve Vodden, Shannon Vodden, Shawn (Lisa) Vodden; a sister, Marla Hayes, all of Grand Forks, ND; a sister-in-law, Janice Johnson, Hamilton, TX and her nieces and nephews that she held dear to her heart.

Melanie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Al Maier; parents, Lorne, and Ramona (Romfo)Vodden; her mother-in-law, Lydia (Stauss)Maier; father-in-law, Edwin Maier; a brother-in-law, John Johnson and her dogs, Sammy and Otis.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.
Burial: In the spring, at Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
