MELVIN "MEL" A. MELLAND

Melvin Arnold Melland, age 81 of Grand Forks, died on Monday, January 3. 2022 peacefully at home.

Melvin, son of Sever and Lillian (Hanson) Melland, was born at Fairdale, ND on August 13, 1940, He was raised in Hoople, ND. He married Lois Ann Ganyo of Grafton, ND August 13th, 1960, together they had three children. Mel became a member of the Local 49ers Union for heavy equipment operators. He ran Crane which took him on travels throughout the United States and abroad. Later Mel worked as a business agent for the Operating Engineer 49ers Union. He retired in 1999.

In 2003 Mel married Patricia Jorde they lived in the Grand Forks area. His 1st love was music, fishing, hunting, woodworking and yard work. Mel collected guitars and guns for many years. He was a gifted self-taught guitarist. Mel built a recording studio expand his love of music.

Mel is survived by his wife, Patricia of Grand Forks; Sons, Gene Melland and Larry Melland both of Manvel, ND; a daughter, Jodi Jorde (Herb Lawonn) of Arvilla, ND; 6 grandchildren; 8 Great grandchildren many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Selmer, Leonard and Orville; sisters, Gladys Kringstad, Selma Kjos, Liz Rieger, Mary Gutterud, and Esther Howes and a Grandson, Garrett Lawrence Melland

Memorial services: Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: one-hour before service time.

Burial: at Memorial Park South in the spring of 2022.
