Melvin "Mel" A. Morris , 74, of Grand Forks, ND passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Melvin Armand Morris was born on March 17, 1952, in Grand Forks, ND the son of Louis and Sybil (Prelvitz) Morris.   He was raised in a large family in East Grand Forks, MN.  Mel always loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed trips into Canada, fishing with his friends, and hunting with his father and his brothers.  He was an avid bowler and for many years bowled in leagues.

Melvin married Audrey Hutton on June 4, 1995, and became the stepfather to Audrey's son, Todd.  The family made their home in Grand Forks. Mel began his career with American Crystal Sugar in April of 1973 and retired in January 2013.  Following his retirement, for a short time, Mel was employed Eide Motors in Grand Forks to pass the time.

While with Crystal Sugar, he was the Internation Representative for the Grain Miller's Union. When it merged and became BCTGM Local 167G, he was President at the East Grand Forks factory.  His core responsibility involved negotiating labor contracts for four years, bargaining agreements which covered  wages and benefits and working conditions for employees.

Mel looked forward to spending time with his brothers and sisters.  He and Audrey traveled to Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Florida for family gatherings. He was a dedicated gardener, proud to plant and tend his garden and looked forward to canning the harvest.  He was a loyal friend, a loving husband, brother, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Mel is survived by his wife Audrey; a stepson, Todd Shatzer, Grand Forks, ND; one little brother left, Louis Morris, Belgrade, MT; sisters, Nancy Benson, East Grand Forks, MN and Sherry (Randy) James, Euless, TX; nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale and sisters, Margaret and Shelly.
