Michael J. Burke, 73, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Michael John Burke was born on September 15, 1950, in Grand Forks, ND to Raymond and Lois (Jordan) Burke. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged on October 1, 1975.

Mike married Susan Hallick on September 24, 1977. To this union brought their twin boys, Christoffer and Chad. Mike worked at Pillsbury early in his life and worked construction between Grand Forks and Texas. He settled for most of his adult years in Seattle, Washington. This is where he started his lifelong career as a contractor with Cedar King Lumber Company. While living in Seattle, Mike was able to work alongside his boys teaching them the ins and outs of siding/contracting. He returned to Grand Forks in 2010.

His greatest joy was his 5 grandkids. He was a very proud papa and would always agree to watch them if needed. He never missed a birthday, and his candy bowl was always full at his house. Mike also enjoyed gathering with friends and family and would enjoy a cold Busch Light (or 2) along with some Laddies jerky.

Mike is survived by his children Chris (Tessa), Thompson, ND. Chad (Kassi), Maple Lake, MN. His grandkids: Lily, Aspen, Cedar, Finley and Charley. His brothers Patrick, Grand Forks, Paul (Bonnie) East Grand Forks, Steve (Lynette Lunde) Grand Forks. Sister-in-law Charlotte. Numerous nieces and nephews. The mother of his children, Susan and her daughter Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Lois. Brothers, Ronald and Gerald: a nephew, Brandon Burke and his best dog companion Couper.

Memorial Service: 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Forks, ND.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
