Michael James Dorsher , beloved teacher, coach, and man of unwavering faith, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 79. A devoted uncle, mentor, and friend, Mike's life was defined by a steadfast commitment to guiding others—whether in the classroom, on the field, or through his character.

Born on January 3, 1946, in Grand Forks, ND, to Jean (Monley) and Kenneth Dorsher, Mike was the third of eleven children and quickly grew into the role of a leader, both in his family and his community. Though he never had children of his own, his many nieces and nephews were the joy of his life—each one of them carrying a piece of his heart. To them, he wasn't just "Big Uncle Mike"; he was a second father, a trusted confidant, and their biggest cheerleader. He was at everything of theirs, never missing a concert, recital, game, or an opportunity to take them fishing.

Mike received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of North Dakota in 1970. He coached and taught at Holy Family Catholic School until 1974 when he took the position of Assistant Office Manager for the Grand Forks Streets and Sanitation Department, where he worked until his retirement in 1997.

He was passionate about sports. When he wasn't playing on the Knights of Columbus softball team with five of his brothers, he was cheering on his beloved hometown teams. He was an avid fan of UND Baseball, Football, and Hockey, and would occasionally announce Central High School Football games on the radio. His love of sports brought him great joy but it was his Catholic faith that was the foundation of his life. A long-time member of St. Michael's Church, he rarely missed a service. His strength, deep compassion, and servant's heart reflected the love of Christ in all he did.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Robert Norton, sister-in-law Irene Dorsher, nephews Caleb Gust, Martin Gust, Pat Malone and nephew-in-law Peter Akinboro. He is survived by his ten siblings: Arleen Norton (Grand Forks, ND); Tom Dorsher (Tucson, AZ); Gerald (Alice) Dorsher (Brandon, MN); Bill (Patty) Dorsher (Hernando, FL); Mary (Charles) Gust (East Grand Forks, MN); Madonna (Doug) Hajicek (Grand Forks, ND); David (Stephanie) Dorsher (Inver Grove Heights, MN); Kenneth Jr. (Patty) Dorsher (Grand Forks, ND); Howard (Sharon) Dorsher (Fort Collins, CO); and Steven (Chantelle) Dorsher (Grand Forks, ND). He is also survived by over 100 nieces and nephews, along with a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who will carry forward his legacy of love, service, and faith.

Mike taught us more than just statistics and plays—he taught us how to live with purpose, how to love without condition, and how to serve with humility. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed.

Mass of Christian Burial :  2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with a 4:30 p.m. recitation of the Rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday
