Myron R. Fried, 89, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in Altru Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Myron Rudolph Fried was born March 19, 1930 in Jamestown, ND the son of Clifford and Myra (Sisson) Fried. He grew up in Spiritwood, ND and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1946 and from Jamestown College in 1950. As a young man, he excelled as a baseball pitcher, in basketball, golf and bowling. He also loved to fish and hunt.

Myron married Carol Ellis, also from Jamestown, in 1951. Together, they raised their two children, Steve and Caron. His career as a salesman with Farmhand Implements eventually brought them to Bismarck, ND. They resided in Bismarck until Carol passed away in 1975 after a short illness. They were married for almost 25 years.

In 1976, Myron met Arlene McGarvey of Bismarck, a widow raising 8 children alone. They married in 1977 and he happily became dad, father, papa or "Pop Myron" to his now blended family. He was very proud to tell everyone that he had 10 children. They enjoyed life together for 27 years before Arlene's death in 2004. They were well known as avid rummage salers and Myron operated an antique and collectibles business in Bismarck, The Wizard of Odds N Ends. Myron moved to Grand Forks in 2011 and lived at Alcott Manor.

Myron enjoyed life to the last. He often read two newspapers a day and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He was always eager to attend family gatherings at the lake and road trips to a casino. He had wicked sense of humor, a sense of fun and always had a twinkle in his eye. He loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren so very much.

Myron's family wish to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Altru Hospital's Intensive Care Unit for the loving care given to their father and the support given to their family.

Myron is survived by his children, Steven (Edna) Fried, Pensacola, FL, Caron (Kent) Keys, Grand Forks, ND, Mark McGarvey, Bismarck, ND, Sue (Mark) Schaan, Rugby, ND, Linda McGarvey, Page, ND, Laura Nelson (Brad Gatzke), Hettinger, ND, Vicki (Marlin) Bender, Erie, ND, Deb (Dean) Clouse, Avon, MN, Paula (Bret) Buchman, Walnut Grove, MN and Terri (Vince) Jegtvig, Dilworth, MN; his sister, Delores Schlosser, Jamestown, ND; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Carol, second wife, Arlene; a brother, Marvin, and a grandson, Corey Lee Nelson.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Saturday.
Burial: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 26 in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
