Nancy Welte Brueckner, 66, of Niagara, ND passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at her home in Niagara.

Nancy Louise Welte was born on June 16, 1955, in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Keith and Helen (Landman) Welte.  She was raised on the family farm near Larimore, ND by parents who valued education and instilled in her a love of reading.  She attended first grade at a country school in Morraine Township and completed her primary and secondary education at Larimore Public School.  She graduated from Larimore High School in 1973.  She went on to obtain a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of North Dakota.  From there, she began her teaching career at Midway Public School.  Nancy met Lars Brueckner at the Niagara Bi-Centennial; they fell in love and later got married on December 27, 1977 at Bethel Lutheran Church.  Together, they had two daughters, Betsy and Jennie. Their family enjoyed many adventures together.  During that time, Nancy continued to take summer classes and received her Master's degree in Education.

She became the elementary and middle school principal at Midway Public School.  She was instrumental in establishing and developing the Midway Middle School.  Midway School was a big part of her life and it was her extended family.  She retired from education in 2020 after 40 plus years of dedicated service.

Nancy loved to cook and bake.  It was a rare occasion that a person stopping by the house was not offered a meal or treat.  Also, she loved playing many games, golfing with friends and making an occasional run to the casinos.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who gave her great joy in life.  Nancy will be greatly missed but remembered for always putting other people first and having an impact on many lives.

Nancy's family wish to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Joel Johnson and the volunteer staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center for the support and compassionate care given to all of us.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lars; her daughters, Betsy (Jake) Eales and Jennie (Trevor) Knudson; her grandchildren, Hudson and Evie Eales and Benjamin Knudson; her mother, Helen Welte; siblings, Jo Welte, John (Liz Lee) Welte, Peter Welte, Letha (Brent Barry) Brenner, H. D. Welte, Beth (Gary) Andrys and Tom Welte; her in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Keith Welte, brother-in-law, Craig Brenner; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vivian and Harold Brueckner, and her nephew, Keith James Welte.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Midway Public School, 3202 33rd Ave NE, Inkster, ND 58233.
