It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Neome E. Bushaw , 93, of Grand Forks, ND. She passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.

Neome Edness Hulstrand was born September 21, 1926 at home in Osford Township in Milton, ND the daughter of Mandus and Florence (Williams) Hulstrand. She attended grade school at Osford Township School #3 and graduated from Fairdale High School in Fairdale, ND. Neome married Joseph Owen Bushaw on October 12, 1945 in Grand Forks, ND and raised 5 children. Neome went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota in 1950 and was followed by her 5 children receiving degrees from UND.

Neome was elected alderman of the Grand Forks City Council and served in that capacity for 16 years. She ran unopposed and served as head of the Finance Committee. She was employed as a social worker at the University of North Dakota Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital and was member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 157. In addition, Neome and Joseph were owners of many businesses including, Bushaw's Lunch, Club 81 and McGuires Bar. She co-managed McGuires for many years, on a daily basis with her son, John, until the bar's demise due to the great flood of 1997.

She is survived by her sons, John (Helen Mattson) Bushaw, Grand Forks, ND, Jacob (Nancy) Bushaw, Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Nancy (George) Shanor, New Castle, PA and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her sons, Joseph Owen Bushaw, Jr. and James Henry Bushaw.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Woodside Village for their compassion while caring for our mother.

Memorial Service: 12:00 Noon Saturday, February 1, 2020 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Forks, ND.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Saturday.
Interment: In the spring at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
