Patricia "Pat" M. Phelps , 85, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Woodside Village in Grand Forks.

Patricia Marie Kuntz was born June 27, 1938, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Peter and Gladys (Iverson) Kuntz. She attended grade school at St. Michael's Catholic School in Grand Forks and graduated in 1956 from St. James Academy.  She went on to graduate from the Bottineau School of Nursing in 1959.  In 1964, Patricia obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.

Pat was employed as the Director of Nursing in Rolla, ND from 1964-1969.  From 1969 to 1999, she was employed as the Nursing Supervisor and IV Resource Nurse at the Deaconess Hospital, United Hospital and Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Pat was united in marriage to Clifford Phelps in January 1970. Clifford preceded her in death on April 20, 2020.  In 1999, Pat retired from Altru Hospital and continued to work at the Altru Cancer Center and in Parish Nursing at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks, until 2014. Pat was inducted into the Altru Nursing Hall of Fame in 2005. She was known as the "Queen of IV's" for her skills.

Pat enjoyed being a mother and grandmother the most. She loved being with family and hosting holidays. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She had great joy working in the nursing profession. She remembered fondly all her co-workers, patients, and families she encountered in her fifty years of nursing. Her biggest goal was to always treat people as she would like to be treated, and to be generous and thoughtful towards all.

Pat is survived by her son, William Phelps of Grand Forks, ND and her daughter, Kristina (Norm) Reich of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister, Sandy Kowalczik; and her grandchildren Courtney (William) Lewis, and Hannah (Ric Ven) Phelps.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Bev Kuntz, and her sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Richard Roberts, and her brother-in-law, Ed Kowalczik.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, in First Presbyterian Church, 5555 South Washington Street, Grand Forks, ND.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the memorial service in the church on Friday.
Interment: Columbarium of First Presbyterian Church, Grand Forks, ND.
