Raymond "Ray" Lorenzen, 74, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of St. Thomas, ND passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his home in Grand Forks.

Raymond Lee Lorenzen was born on December 7, 1947, in Drayton, ND the son of Henry and Frances (Phelps) Lorenzen.  He was raised in St. Thomas and attended school in Drayton and St. Thomas.  Upon the completion of his education, Ray was employed by several farmers in the area.  Ray entered the United States Army on April 14, 1969 and served in Vietnam as an armored tank driver.  Ray was awarded 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Army Commendation Medal for heroism and meritorious service.   He was honorably discharged from active military service on March 2, 1971, at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, CO.  He returned to St. Thomas and again was employed by farmers.   Ray married Betty Hodny on February 15, 1980, in Grand Forks.  They moved to Grand Forks and Ray was employed as a tire mechanic with Home of Economy. Betty preceded him in death on December 16, 1987.  Ray married Barbara McCann on June 29, 1991, in Grand Forks.  They resided in Grand Forks and Ray continued to be employed with Home of Economy and later with Culligan Water Systems.    In his later years, he was employed with several farmers as a truck driver during the spring planting season and fall harvest season.

Ray loved visiting with his many friends and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 299 in Manvel, ND.  Raymond was lovingly referred to, by his family, as "Uncle Pokey" and as "Ray Ray" by his close friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Shauna Lorenzen, Emerado, ND, Shayne Lorenzen, Fargo, ND, Trevor (Lisa) Loss, New Richland, MN, Jason Loss, Little Canada, MN, James (Amber) McCann, Grand Forks, ND, Bradley Anderson, Grand Forks, ND; a sister Helen (John Bushaw, Grand Forks, ND and 6 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; brothers, Charles Lorenzen and Michael Lorenzen and a sister, Marie Christinson.

Memorial Service: 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Tuesday.
Interment: At a later date in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 299 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
Celebration of Life: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Riverside Park, 1811 N 1st Street in Grand Forks, ND.
