Renate Ostby (Porr) was born on August 12, 1941 and passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on March 10, 2021.

She was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm Porr and Maria Magdalena (Werb) Porr.  She lived with her parents, 8 brothers and 2 sisters until she met John Allen Ostby, her husband of 55 years.  They took up residence in Grand Forks, North Dakota and welcomed three daughters into their lives.   Over the years she enjoyed caring for her daughters, sewing, painting ceramics, camping, cooking, and gardening.  Renate was employed for many years as manager of the housekeeping department at the Best Western Town House in Grand Forks, ND.  She went on to finish her working career as manager of the housekeeping department at Valley Memorial in Grand Forks, ND. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Reynolds, ND.

Those who survive her and shared in her life were her three daughters Carmen (Craig) Showalter, Cheyenne, WY, Diana (John) Callahan, Westfield, IN,  Michelle Ostby, Reynolds, ND; 3 grandchildren, Danelle(Ryan) King, Jessica (Nathaniel) James, Jack (Renee) Callahan; 3 great-grandchildren, Logan King, Jordan James and Zachary James; siblings Helena Zenk, Manfred Porr, and Juliane Porr.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers; Wilhelm, Ernst, Heinz, Helmut, Ferdinand, Karl, and Adolf Porr.  A memorial service will be held at the historic Norman Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND this summer with the date and time to be determined later.

Family Greeting: 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral Home on Saturday.
Interment: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021 in Cando Cemetery, Cando, ND.
