R heta C. Peterson, 88, of Grand Forks, ND, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from dementia at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks.

Rheta Clair Chalmers was born to Roy and Grace Chalmers on October 24, 1935, in Grand Forks, ND.  Rheta was raised in East Grand Forks, MN and graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1953. In 1955 she graduated from Ackers Business College.

She married Lyle Sutton in 1962 and had two daughters, Jill, and Lisa.

Rheta spent the majority of her work years at Equitable Life.

During this time her brother introduced her to the man who would become the love of her life and best friend.  She married Dave Peterson in 1976.

Dave and Rheta enjoyed traveling, socializing, playing cards and could often be found at the Dakotah Hotel.

Playing bridge was a favorite past time of Rheta's. At home she played a mean game of Gin Rummy with family and was unrelenting even against her grandsons.

Rheta also enjoyed reading, watching movies, watching UND hockey games, and enjoying her nightly snack of popcorn and Diet Coke.

Rheta will be forever loved and missed by daughters, Jill Ryan, Mound, MN, Lisa (Todd) Warner, Grand Forks, ND, Grandsons, Hudson and Riley Warner, Jack (Jori) Ryan and Garrett Ryan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Grace Chalmers, brother Robert (Buzz) Chalmers, Sister Darlyne Wavra and husband Dave Peterson.

In Rheta's memory on this day, we are asking the ladies to wear lipstick.

Funeral Liturgy: Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 5:00 pm in the Norman Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: One hour before service time in the funeral home on Thursday.
