Robert "Bob" Axtman, 92, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020 in Grand Forks.

Robert Michael Axtman was born October 1, 1927 in Rugby, ND and spent his youth in Devils Lake, ND.   To honor and serve his country, Robert entered the United States Army on November 19, 1946 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the occupational forces of the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged from military service with the rank of Sergeant on July 18, 1947.

Robert married Lois E. Porter on November 12, 1949 in Nekoma, ND. Together, they celebrated over 70 years of marriage. Bob's honesty and integrity earned him respect in his years of employment with Bergstrom Lake Chevrolet in Devils Lake, Rydell Chevrolet and Thompson Insurance in Grand Forks. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being a host for Superhighway Tours Casino Bus. He was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois; his children, Vicki (Douglas) Kjono, Jeanne (Damus) Chaput and James (Renee) Axtman; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many special cousins and friends.

Private Mass of Christian Burial: Due to COVID-19 concerns, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2020 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial : Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
