Robert Lynn Cable , Grand Forks, N. D., formerly of Enderlin, N. D.  died in his home on November 13, 2023, at the age of 69 years.

Robert was born to Bobbie (Brumfield) and Kent Cable in Lisbon, N. D. on January 16, 1954. He was born as a blizzard raged outside and the temperatures were frigid. Alarm overcame our mother when she realized he was in an incubator. The nurses quickly calmed her when they told her, "It was the only warm place in the hospital.".

When the Cables moved to Hazen, N. D., Kent's father, a widower, followed and set up housekeeping on his own. If Bob came up missing, there was only one place to look—Grandpa Charlie's house and there he'd be found shadowing his grandfather.

The Cables moved to Enderlin in 1960 and Grandpa Charlie went to the Odd Fellows Home, a fraternity comparable to the Eagles or Elks in this day, in Devils Lake, N. D. Bob didn't take long before he was shadowing our Grandpa Gene who lived only three houses away.

Bob picked up his love of gardening, taking care of the lawn, and general "puttering" from our Grandpa Gene.

Bob attended grades one through twelve in Enderlin, N. D. He graduated in May 1973. Strangely enough, the next night would be his older brother's wedding rehearsal, a wedding on Saturday and on Sunday, his home would be moving away from him as his parents and sister were moving to Langdon, N. D.

Bob had started working in the Enderlin Red Owl Store as a junior in high school and continued there for a time after graduation. While in Enderlin, Bob joined the Volunteer  Fire Department. March of 1973 Enderlin suffered an elevator fire and loss. Small town people know each other and when Bob heard that the bookkeeper was going to lose all the records, he went into the office to retrieve them. He was lost for a time and nearly died that night. The local doctor only had enough oxygen to get him to Lisbon, 17 miles away. His sister sat with him that night waiting for any variance in his breathing. His lungs would be damaged for the rest of his life…but he saved the records, and the woman and elevator manager were forever grateful. After staying in  Enderlin awhile he went into the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in May 1975.

Bob decided to work in Fargo at that time at the then Standard Oil Company. After a few years there, he moved to Grand Forks and worked for (strangely enough) the Cable Company. While working there, the company sent him to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. On his return, he began working at Sambo's Restaurant where he met the love of his life, Jane Staskivige and welcomed into his heart Jane's son, Chad.

After they were married on April 16, 1983, Bob went to work for Family Furniture, Miller's True Value, and Menard's, where he continued working until retirement.

Jane and Bob were the very best of friends and enjoyed doing so many things together including deer hunting, pheasant hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake, traveling around the area and working on their home. There was no end to the home projects the two of them took on together! They supported and loved each other always.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jane, son, Chad, a brother, Rick (Diana) Cable, a sister, Lynda (Lynn) Cable, an aunt, Audrey Brumfield and several nieces, and a nephew as well as cousins. Also surviving are Jane's brothers Richard (Marie) Staskivige, Gerald (Cheryl) Staskivige. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, parents, uncles, Deane Cable, Richard and Betty Brumfield, Roger (Audrey) Brumfield, an aunt, Ruth (Cable) Klier and her husband Maynard, a nephew Ryan Staskivige, and niece Kacee Staskivige.

Services will be held in Norman Funeral Home alongside his beloved wife of forty years, Jane, who succumbed to cancer after a valiant fight with the disease. She was fierce but was not meant to win this battle. Now they will be together for eternity.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2023, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.

Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
