Robert "Bob" Hanson , 75, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at his residence surrounded by family.

Robert Irvin Hanson was born on June 1, 1947, in Grand Forks, ND the son of Irvin and Edith (Jallo) Hanson.  He grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Campbell Highschool in Campbell, CA. Bob enlisted in the United States Army on December 28, 1966 and served as helicopter door gunner in the 1 ^st Calvary Division during the Vietnam War.  Bob was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Expert M-16, and Marksman M-14 during his service. He was honorably discharged from active military service on December 27, 1972.  He returned to Grand Forks where he was employed for over 35 years at Wells Concrete, as a truck driver. Bob received the Driver of the Year Award for driving over 1.8 million miles without an accident and continued with no accidents until he retired in 2017.

Bob enjoyed building street rods, fishing, going to the casino, and having a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon or a Jim Beam with his friends. He was well known for his one liners and always made people laugh.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends.

He is survived by his children, Michelle (Paul) Becnel, and Christopher (Nicole) Hanson, grandchildren, Tiauna Hanson (22), Paul Becnel (9), Kyle Becnel (8), John Powers (16), Nathaniel Powers (13) and Landon Hanson (11); his siblings, Dana (Dianne) Mullenhour, and Jana (Richard) Curry and special friend, Rebecca Garman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral Service : Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.
Burial: Veterans Garden of Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
