Robert "Bob" Norton , 94, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Valley Senior living in Grand Forks.

Robert Emmett Norton was born March 9, 1927 in Walker, MN the son of Alonzo and Lorna (Morrell) Norton.   The family moved to a farm near East Grand Forks, MN where they owned and operated Norton Potato Company.  Robert enlisted in the United States Navy on March 6, 1945 and served his country during World War II.  He was honorably discharged from active military service, with the rank of Seaman First Class, on August 1, 1946.  Following his discharged from the Navy, he obtained his GED and went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota with a Masters in Music Education and a Minor in English. Then, he taught high school in Humboldt, MN and Sharon, ND.  Robert married Arleen Dorsher on June 24, 1977 in Grand Forks.

He joined Mary Joyce Hastings in the band, Today's People where he played guitar and sang. Later, he and his wife, Arleen Norton started the band, Stoney Road where they played together for 25 years.  He served as cantor for 46 years at Saint Michael's Catholic Church. Robert built and remodeled homes as part of his company, Norton Enterprises. For several years, he worked as a repair contractor at the Grand Forks Air Force Base and as a maintenance worker at Ryan Potato Company. He also worked as a handyman for REM.

He is survived by his wife, Arleen; his children, Michael (Ruth), Patrick, Daniel (Angela), Molly (Brian), Jennifer (Michael); grandchildren, Amy, Jackie, Richard, Hannah, Thomas, Matthew, Randi, Kiki, Spencer, Cassie, Brian Junior, Jack, and Victoria; sisters, Nora (Mrs. Roger) Pearson, Mary Ellen (Mrs. Vern) Schindeler and Rita Finn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Tom, John and Dave.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation :  10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a 10:30 a.m. rosary service in the church on Monday.
Interment: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded at the time of interment by members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the United States Navy Reserve.
