Rosalie A. "Rose" Kalal, 87, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks, ND.

Rosalie Ann Dvorak was born on August 27, 1936, in Pisek, ND the daughter of Henry and Rose (Praska) Dvorak.  She attended school in Pisek, graduating in 1954.  After graduation, she attended the University of North Dakota and received her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College.

On August 27, 1956, Rose married John P. Kalal in Pisek, ND. They settled in Grand Forks, where they made their home and raised their family. Rose and John were charter members of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks and remained lifelong members until their passing. They were married for 56 years before John passed away in April 2012.

Rose was a dedicated homemaker and mother, staying plenty busy raising her six children, with her youngest sons — Paul, Tim, and Jim — especially keeping her on her toes. In her later years, Rose was employed at Hardee's and Sam's Club in Grand Forks.   Reading was her biggest passion; she was a frequent visitor to the Grand Forks Public Library, often borrowing numerous books at a time. She also had a love for travel and spent many, many summers at Cass Lake in Minnesota.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Steve) Belisle , Kathie (Steve) Johnke; her sons, John (Valerie) Kalal, Tim (Jodie) Kalal and Jim (Shelly) Kalal; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great- grandchildren; her sisters, Marie Ericson and Lucy Sobolik.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, John, a son, Paul; brothers, Herman and Joseph; sisters, Henrietta Swartz and Evelyn Myerchin.

Rose's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who provided exceptional care for Rose at Valley Senior Living, where she made her home for the last 3 ½ years.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary Service and 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.
Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
