Sophie Marie (Opyt) Griggs, 95, of Thompson, ND, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, at Valley Senior Living on 42nd in Grand Forks, ND.

Sophie was born on December 12, 1929, at home, to John and Mary Opyt. She married Frank J. Griggs, Jr. on September 5, 1946, in St. Jude's Catholic Church in Thompson, ND.   They raised six children on the family farm and later moved to Thompson. Frank passed away on November 12, 1986.

Sophie was a hard worker. She was employed as a Janitorist for the Thompson Public School System for many years and retired at the age of 77. She moved into Valley Senior Living on 42nd in 2016.

She had a strong faith, passing that faith unto her family.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Sears, Elizabeth (Robert) Schumacher, Kathy Holien, John (Sharon) Griggs, Pamela (Charles) Nelson, and Robert (Susie) Griggs; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Griggs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons-in-law, Dwight Sears and Larry Holien.

As a family, we would like to thank the staff of Valley Senior Living on 42nd for the wonderful and compassionate care given to our mother.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in St. Jude's Catholic Church, Thompson, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.
Burial: Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in St. Jude's Catholic Cemetery, Thompson, ND.
