Thomas "Tom" L. Johnson, 62, of Grand Forks, ND went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

Thomas Lynn Johnson was born on August 20, 1960, in Grand Forks, ND to Donald and Carolyn (Kulla) Johnson.  He was the oldest of three children.  Tom grew up in East Grand Forks, MN and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating in 1978.  Tom attended Mayville State University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, and the University of North Dakota, earning his Master's Degree in Counseling.  Tom spent his career at Altru Hospital serving those with mental health disorders.

Tom married Shelley Foley on June 27, 1992, in Reynolds, ND.  Tom and Shelley have three children, Sara (Jeremy) Gusaas, Justin Johnson (deceased), and Joseph Johnson.  Tom has one granddaughter, Isabelle Gusaas, who was his pride and joy.

Tom's passions included rebuilding old Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a love of music, playing in many bands, and having jam sessions with his buddies.  He also loved good food, often commenting (after almost every family meal) that it was the "best meal he ever ate".  With forty years of sobriety, Tom was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, living every day one day at a time with the support of his AA family.

Tom is survived by his wife, Shelley;  his children; a grandchild; sisters, Cindy (Mark) Rice and Cherylyn (Dean) Stoltman of Grand Forks, ND; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Brian) McCarthy, Secane, PA, Sheila (Connley) Anderson, Grand Forks, ND, Shannon (Steve) Hunt, Reynolds, ND; brothers-in-law, Ed (Kathy) Foley and Brad (Jessica) Foley both of Grand Forks, ND and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and his father-in-law and mother in-law, Mike and Kay Foley.

Tom had an extremely generous nature and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.  May he rest in peace.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.
Burial: 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, in Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
