Thomas Lee Murphy, 73, of Grand Forks, ND passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Thomas, the son of William James and Agnus Viola (Thompson) Murphy, was born in Grand Forks, ND on October 4, 1946.  He grew up and graduated in Fisher, MN. After graduation, Thomas joined the army and was stationed in Turkey. After his return, he married Joyce Ann Devos on February 24, 1968, and they resided in Grand Forks, ND.

Thomas managed Trade Home Shoe store in Grand Forks, ND and Fergus Falls, MN. After that, he served twenty-five years for the Grand Forks Police Department, then later on retired and opened his own private investigating and process serving business that he had for ten years.

He loved to spend all his free time with his family, doing yard work, going on trips to the casino, working on cars and watching movies. He also enjoyed coaching sports as well as playing them. Thomas also loved going to watch anything that his grandkids were in whether it was a sporting event or musical. He would crack jokes anytime he got the chance to.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Joyce; a son, Greg (Barb) Murphy; their two sons, Zachary and Jacob; a daughter, Becky Murphy; her son, Justin and her daughter, Kenedee; a daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Berry; their son, Kaleb and their daughter, Jordyn; special nephew, Steven (Jan) Bratvold; their son, Trevor all of Grand Forks, ND, and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, William, Raymond, James, Ronald, Dennis; sisters, Dorothy "Susie" Gayle Gaines and Margret "Peggy" Tillman and two twin boys, Shawn Thomas and Shane Timothy.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11: 00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Interment: In the spring at the Garden of the Evangelists Columbarium in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND
. Honor Guard: Grand Forks Police Department Honor Guard.
Military Honors: Accorded at the time of interment by the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
