Walter M. Majkrzak, 94, of Thompson, ND passed away, Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks.

Walter was born on August 6, 1928, in Thompson, ND the son of Stanley and Agnes (Christopher) Majkrzak. He was raised on the family farm in rural Thompson and continued to farm throughout his life.  The family farm is currently being operated by the 4 ^th generation.

Walter entered the United States Army in November of 1945.   He was honorably discharged in March of 1947.  He served with occupation forces in Okinawa, Japan.  Upon returning from his service, Walter met Avis Marie Schreiner through mutual friends and Walter and Avis were married on January 7, 1948, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Thompson. They celebrated their 71 ^st wedding anniversary before Walter lost the love of his life in May of 2019.

Walter was known for figuring out innovative and creative solutions to everyday problems, often referred to as "Walt-isms".   He loved anything mechanical, especially something with a motor.  Most of all, he loved and was so proud of his family.   He was very active in the lives of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed wrestling with his grandchildren, attending their activities and giving advice whether wanted or not!  He was a lifetime member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and was instrumental in the planning and renovation of the church.  He also served on numerous civic and agricultural boards.

He is survived by his children, Connie Westrom, Inver Grove Heights, MN; David Majkrzak (Deb), Fargo, ND; Robert (Jill) Majkrzak, West Fargo, ND; Larry (Tammy) Majkrzak, Phoenix, AZ; Jeffrey (Liza) Majkrzak, Orono, MN; Lisa (Troy) Lazur, Reynolds, ND.  Sisters, Mary Gregoire, Everett, WA; Sophie Newberry, Cleveland, NY; Elizabeth McGurran, Grand Forks, ND.  21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Avis; a son, Daniel Majkrzak, a daughter-in-law, Diane Majkrzak; a son-in-law, Marvin Westrom; brothers, Tony, John and Stanley; sisters, Anne Krantz and Frances Gioe.

The family of Walter would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff of Valley Senior Living and Hospice of the Red River Valley who lovingly cared for our father.  We truly cannot thank all of you enough.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in St. Jude's Catholic Church, Thompson, ND.
Visitation: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service in St. Jude's Church.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.
Burial: In the spring, at St. Jude's Catholic Cemetery in Thompson, ND.
Military Honors: Will be accorded at the time of burial by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
