WILLIAM JAMES STEFFEN

William J. "Bill" Steffen, 77, passed away on February 27, 2023 in East Grand Forks, MN.

Bill was born on December 22, 1945 in Devils Lake, ND to Paul and Mary (Kuntz) Steffen. He was the fifth of ten children, and grew up on a farm near Edmore, ND.  Bill graduated from Edmore High School in 1963. After graduation, he was employed by the grain elevator in Edmore, ND. Bill began his career with the United States Postal Service in 1966 as a mail clerk in Grand Forks, ND. Bill ultimately accepted a position as the postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Forest River, ND. After more than 45 incredible years of service, Bill proudly retired from the United States Postal Service. On August 16, 1969, Bill married Linda Marcotte at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Bill and Linda were blessed with 7 children. They later divorced.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed farming, gardening, playing cards, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family, children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his children Cyndi (Todd) Wheeler of San Rafael, CA; Rhonda (James) Steffen of Augusta, WI; Rachel (Rob) Sanderson of Bismarck, ND; Paul (Traci) Steffen of Moorhead, MN; Kimberly (Jon) Reinpold of Amenia, ND; William "Billy" (Kari) Steffen of Moorhead, MN; Lori (Nicholas) Wentz of Byron, MN; 16 grandchildren; siblings Paul (Janice) Steffen, Ellie (Ed) Bosch, Karen (Steve) Samek, Tom (Cindy) Steffen, JoAnn (Danny) Lizakowski, Pat (David) Allfrey; many nieces, nephews and their families.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Christine Kraft, Helen Hovland, Mary Bolken;  brothers-in-law Ray Kraft and Payne Bolken and nephew Todd Kraft.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
